The Sydney Morning Herald reported today that Airbus believes that they can fit 1000 people in an A380,11 seats abreast. The aircraft is currently certified for 852. They believe that on high density routes like Bangalore to Delhi the A380 with a single class configuration will have a lower the seat - mile cost for the 2 and 3/4 journey than the same trip by train, a 2 and 1/2 day journey.
It may not be all that surprising that the Bangalore - Delhi route has been used as an example, Kingfisher Airlines has 5 A380's on order.
